Hello world! I am Jacen Davis, a Cyber LeADERS scholar and Cybersecurity Undergrad student at Old Dominion University. I am a recipient of the National Science Foundation’s CyberCorp Scholarship for Service, courtesy of ODU. As part of the first seven members of ODU’s Cyber LeADERS first cohort, our second cohort, and an incoming third Summer 2023, I am committed to using my education, experimental learning, and experience toward Federal service in cybersecurity.
My current and future goals are:
- Graduate with a Bachelors of Science in Cybersecurity
- Continue my professional development and education in the Federal government
- Start in a Masters program by August 2024
- Gain experience and hands-on learning in IoT and electronics
I am an Analyst, Tinkerer, and Civil Servant
Analyst
I am introspective about myself and my surroundings and seek to analyze processes and people in relation to myself and others. As an incoming graduate in a Bachelor of Cybersecurity, it is vital to analyze the processes of people in relation to Information Technology and reflect on how far organizations (and society) have progressed in using technology.
Tinkerer
Messing with things that have no apparent relation to my current goals or professional success is a must in my book. I constantly want to learn new things and apply it to my daily life. It is simply unfair to let things be as they are. I want to tear apart a system and learn its internal workings, mess with it, integrate it with something different, and make it work.
Civil Servant
As an incoming civil servant, I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve my country in IT/Cybersecurity. It is telling that my first internship was in local government with York County, where I was a civil servant in Information Technology. I intend to play an important role in government service and American supremacy in Cyberspace.
Accomplishments
-
CompTIA Security+ CE
CompTIA’s Security+ certification is considered the baseline Cybersecurity credential expected by most commercial and government employers from their IT and Cybersecurity professionals. The current exam (SY0-601) covers foundational to advanced topics on access controls, digital forensics, wireless security, network security, malware identification, security configuration and policy, data security, and cryptography.
Earned August 2022
-
Cisco Certified Network Administrator
The CCNA is one of the most recognized and challenging certifications in the IT industry due to the required knowledge and skillsets to pass. The current exam (200-301) covers network fundamentals, IP services, security fundamentals, automation, and programmability to validate a candidate’s foundational skills in managing and operating advanced networks.
Renewed September 2023
-
Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician
The CCENT certification validated the skills required for entry-level network support positions, and was my first industry certification. From this certification, I gained the knowledge and skill to install, operate, and troubleshoot a small enterprise branch network, including basic network security. The Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices Part 1 (ICND1 / 100-101) exam and associated CCENT certification is now retired. Earning this certification gave the experience and confidence to tackle future certifications, including the CCNA and Security+ certifications.
Earned Febuary 2020
